Thenura Abayaratne is a Power Systems Engineer with experience in power system modelling, analysis and grid connection within the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM).
He graduated from Monash University, where he was awarded the Zinfra Prize for Excellence in Electrical Engineering and was the Runner-Up for the Wilson Transformer Company Prize for his research on impedance scanning for the purposes of stability analysis of grid-converter systems.
Thenura has gained valuable professional experience with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and most recently in a consulting firm, where he played a key role in performing plant modelling and power system studies, using industry standard tools such as PSS/E and PSCAD, to support the integration of renewable energy resources into the grid in accordance with the National Electricity Rules (NER), AEMO and NSP guidelines.
Thenura holds special interest in large data processing and scripting, enabling him to leverage automation and advanced data analysis to streamline power system studies, process large datasets, and improve the efficiency of technical workflows.
Thenura’s strong attention to detail and rigorous technical analysis, supports the reliable and seamless integration of renewable energy resources into the power system.
